Criteria are set forth to help the class choose a project that can be a quick success, yet substantial enough for participation by all class members to apply learning from the class sessions. 

• Keep it small ($2,000-$12,000 total project budget)
• Keep it simple (consider outside approvals and number of hours per person needed)
• Keep it brief (completed in one year)
• All class participants can be involved
• Visible/Tangible
• A potential "qualified grantee" exists

 Matching Grant Requirements:

• $5,000 is the maximum request for matching funds.
• At least 40% of the match must be cash contributions; Up to 60% of the match may be in-kind contributions.
• The grantee organization must sign and agree to the terms of the grant agreement sent by The Ford Family Foundation.
• All funds to complete the project must be secured and documention sent to The Ford Family Foundation, before matching funds are released.
• A final report to The Ford Family Foundation is due within 60 days after completion of the project. The final report requirements are outlined in the grant agreement.

• Professional services (legal, architectural, engineering, accounting, medical) at a customary hourly rate for your area. *
• Other services (printing, site preparation, fabricating, sub-contractors, publicity, at customary rate for time and materials.
• Costs for use of machinery (heavy equipment) at customary hourly rate.
• Furnishings, landscape or construction materials (appliances, furniture, trees, plants, wood, plumbing, hardware etc.) donated by a business or an individual either directly or indirectly.
• Hours spent in the actual project (for instance, volunteers constructing a playground) can be counted as in-kind. Non-skilled volunteer labor such as this would be calculated at the Oregon/California minimum wage.

• Labor donated for fundraising activities.
• Labor and time associated with project planning and implementation by class members.

Please include the following attachments with the application form:

• Support Letter from the Grantee Organization. A letter from the grantee organization explaining their reasons to support the class project and how this project fits with their mission.  This letter should be on the organization's letterhead and signed by the head of the organization.
• A list of the grantee organization's Board of Directors.  Include address, phone numbers and profesions.
• A copy of the the IRS determination Letter.  This letter recognizes the grantee organization's Internal Revenue Code (IRC) section 501(c)(3) public charity status.  This attachment is not required if the organization is a government agency.
• Project Budget.  Include revenue and expenses.  The source and amount of committed, pending and planned contributions including in-kind should add up to the total expenses.  (See example and template)
