Ford Opportunity Program for Oregon Residents

The Ford Opportunity Program is need-based and designed for single parents who are heads of household, pursuing a bachelor’s degree, and do not have the support of a domestic partner. This program is also available to residents of Siskiyou County, California.

Hallie E. Ford (1905-2007), a founder of The Ford Family Foundation, established the Ford Opportunity Program to assist single parents obtain a bachelor's degree. She realized that students who are parents have many extra responsibilities. She was determined to help them by providing financial assistance and encouragement.

Tips for Completing a Ford Family Scholarship Application

  • Application and Worksheet available online at www.OregonStudentAid.gov/ford-oregon.aspx. Use the worksheet to get familiar with the online application process.
  • Submit your FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1 and before March 1 to be certain it is available for review.
  • Treat it like a job resume – it has a similar purpose! Selection committees want to see what you’ve done and how you’ve already begun making your mark in the world.
  • Be sure to complete all parts of the application. Review your completed application before submitting, including checking for typos in your Activities Chart and Personal Statements.
  • Submit the correct transcript(s). Failure to provide the correct transcript(s) invalidates your application – no exceptions. Refer to the Worksheet for more details.
