Scholarship Programs
The Foundation offers a suite of financial and program resources in Oregon, Siskiyou County, California and, in some cases, other regions. Many recipients enthusiastically declare that the Scholarship Programs are about “so much more than the money.” Our selection committees strive to select recipients whose past and potential are worthy of special support and development. The Foundation hopes to develop a long term relationship with such students – not simply to bestow a scholarship. We actively look for applicants of all ages with unique attributes who may not have had the encouragement, the opportunity or the financial means to attend or to complete their higher education. These candidates demonstrate an understanding of the value of work, taking responsibility, giving back and helping others. We hope that by giving them a chance, they can succeed in college and beyond.

Alumni Spotlight:
Aaron Tabacco

Aaron Tabacco exemplifies the adage that life is attitude. He is a husband, father, nurse educator, pediatric nurse, volunteer and world traveler. Challenging? Yes, but Aaron describes his life as joyful and expanded and he thrives on balancing “full time work, full time doctoral studies and family life.”
Awarded as a Ford ReStart Scholar in 2003 when he was in his early 30’s, Aaron’s ambition was to become a nurse and an educator. (

Results from the Ford Scholars Program Evaluation
Since the inception of the Ford Scholars Program in 1994, more than 2,000 Scholars from the State of Oregon and from Siskiyou County, California, have received over $50 million in scholarships to support their education. In 2011, Goodman Research Group, Inc., of Cambridge, Massachusetts, was selected to conduct an in-depth retrospective analysis of the Ford Scholars Program. The Foundation is sharing some of what we learned from this in depth study. Read more about the results of the evaluation.
