Special Programs
The Special Programs of The Ford Family Foundation are proactive grant programs where the Foundation has identified issues of special concern and has aimed significant resources towards systemic change in those arenas. By researching and designing programs shaped around specific interventions, the Foundation hopes to “move the needle” in collaboration with appropriate partners. The Foundation is currently supporting four programs: Chalkboard Project, Early Childhood Development, Post Secondary Education, and the Visual Arts.  Note: Special Programs are Foundation-driven efforts; funding is considered by invitation only. These programs not part of the Foundation's Responsive Grant categories and are not open to unsolicited requests.

Chalkboard Project Launched in 2004, the Chalkboard Project is a non-profit, non-partisan organization working to unite Oregonians to make our K-12 public schools among the nation's best.
Early Childhood Development In 2011, the Foundation will deepen its proactive focus on Early Childhood Development (ECD) with an articulated goal “to increase the number of children in rural Oregon who are entering Kindergarten school-ready.” While still in the design phase, the Foundation plans to focus efforts on two primary interventions, parent education and home visitation programs.
Post Secondary Education In 2010, the Foundation launched a new proactive focus on Post Secondary Education (PSE) with a goal to increase the number of rural students who aspire to and enroll in post-secondary education or training.  In order to help implement these goals, the Foundation has partnered with Oregon GEAR UP.
Visual Arts Established in 2010 in honor of the late Hallie Ford's interest in the visual arts, this $3.5 million, five-year proactive grant program provides a range of resources to assist mid-career visual artists and the visual arts institutions that further the creation and exhibition of Oregonians' work.
