Ford Opportunity Program for Oregon Residents

The Ford Opportunity Program is need-based and designed for single parents who are heads of household, pursuing a bachelor’s degree, and do not have the support of a domestic partner. This program is also available to residents of Siskiyou County, California.

The Ford Opportunity Program was created by Hallie E. Ford (1905-2007), a founder of The Ford Family Foundation. Mrs. Ford established this program to assist single parents. Realizing that as both students and parents these people have many extra responsibilities, she was determined to help them obtain their bachelor’s degrees by providing financial assistance, counseling and support services.

Tips for Completing Ford Family Scholarship Applications
  • Application and eApp Workbook available online at www.getcollegefunds.org.
  • Submit your FAFSA before March 1 to be certain it is available for review.
  • Complete the required Activities Chart. The online application makes it easy.
  • Treat it like a job resume – it has a similar purpose! Selection committees want to see what you’ve done and how you’ve already begun making your mark in the world.
  • Preview the Activities Chart.
  • Type or neatly print all submitted materials. Use white paper and ink dark enough for photocopying.
Transcript Tips
  • If mailing transcript(s) separate from application, be sure to include your 5-digit eApp number.
  • Unofficial or photocopied transcripts are accepted. If you have a transcript in an official, sealed envelope, remove it and send it without the envelope.
  • High school students: Submit your seventh-semester transcript (not typically available before January), which shows all the academic work you’ve done through the first semester of your senior year. Application packages containing only sixth-semester transcripts will NOT be considered.
  • College students: Send copies of your transcripts from each college where coursework has been completed during the last 10 years.

Failure to provide transcripts invalidates your application – no exceptions. Do not send grade reports or summaries.
