We are here for the long haul
September 10, 2020: We grieve the loss of lives and communities due to wildfires. Our hearts break for those who have been evacuated and suffered in so many ways. We mourn the destruction of homes, forests and habitats. The compounding stress of multiple crises this year means our resiliency as rural residents is being tested more than ever.
To support the rural communities most affected by current wildfires in Oregon and Siskiyou County, California, The Ford Family Foundation Board of Directors has allocated $225,000 for emergency relief. These funds will be dispersed immediately to emergency response funds including the American Red Cross, several United Way organizations and the Community Foundation of the North State to help in Siskiyou County, California. We are also in dialogue with local community partners and grantees to ensure that we provide funding to organizations that are able to reach the most vulnerable populations, especially those who might not find their way to traditional sources of emergency support.
More support coming: We expect that the Foundation will provide significantly more support in the future after we determine our communities’ needs.
The wildfires and their impact on people and communities change by the hour. We will continue to listen to our community partners on how to be a source of support and hope.
Know that we are here for the long haul.
