The Abacus Project: Three-book bundle
Math activity books for children and Goodnight Moon
Math skills at kindergarten entry can predict later success in school. The Abacus Project (two 12-page books for Ages Birth to 3 years, and 3 to 5 years) helps parents and caregivers find the math in everyday routines. The playful activities make learning fun. BONUS: Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown: In this classic children's book, quiet poetry and gentle illustrations combine to make a perfect book for the end of the day. And it's loaded with math words and ideas to talk about with little ones. Originally published 1947. Goodnight Moon is also available in Spanish from Select Books. Printed editions of the Abacus books are free for residents of Oregon and Siskiyou County, Calif. Anyone may download PDFs of the Abacus books for free here:

Very fun and interesting set of books. Good Night Moon has always been a favorite of mine when I read it to my daughter and now reading it to my grandchildren makes it even more special. They love looking for the items in the story and reading aloud with me as well as knowing some words by sight. The Abacus books are wonderful with so many great ideas for utilizing everyday activities to stimulate learning in little minds. Some things I took for granted in doing are now fun learning activities.

I love using this book for our speech kiddos! The first pages introduces half of a room. It begins by labeling a couple items in that part of the room. There is an open ended sentence to cue the listener to find another item. The second pages are pictures of the items that the listener was cued to find. It works as a way to see if the listener was correct. The whole book continues in a similar fashion. It also has rhyming imbedded in the story as another way to help listeners guess what's next. So fun!

Great ideas to bring math into everyday interactions. This book helps parent learn how to create meaningful ways to learn math concepts. The books are very hands on, and I loved the idea to make a do it yourself math kit to have accessible at all times. As a Director of a preschool program I gave the books to my two's teacher and my preschool teacher and they loved them.

We absolutely loved this set of books! There were so many creative ideas for teaching numbers, shapes, patterns, and measurement. The books provided great ideas for how to incorporate language, music, movement, and objects already in our home environment - into fun activities for learning. We have many of the books identified, (such as: Where's Spot? by Eric Hill; Baby Bear, Baby Bear What Do You See? by Eric Carle; and Millions of Cats by Wanda Gag) and look forward to doing the engaging activities suggested. Definitely a must have series for any parent, caregiver or early childhood teacher!

My daughter enjoyed this book set. Goodnight Moon is a classic children’s story which she loves reading. I really liked the suggestions for incorporating math into her daily activities as I wasn’t quite sure how to talk to a one year old about math. I like having a guide of what to do, and my daughter loves looking at the pictures of children and other photos on the booklets too.

I loved the format of the Abacus Project books! They were simple to read and easy to implement at home. Having kids in both the 0-3 and 3-5 range it was nice to compare the activities and see ways to modify them so everyone can join in. Many of the ideas were to incorporate math concepts into daily tasks so it was a nice reminder of simple ways to get kids more familiar with math terms doing something we were already doing. Goodnight Moon being included was a nice bonus!

These books came just in time, as my oldest son will be starting Kindergarten in the fall, and my youngest into preschool. Having to find separate learning levels to pinpoint what both children need in one book makes my job easier. I would recommend these books to parents who love watching their children learn and expand their minds in new ways they haven’t discovered yet.

The Abacus Project books are very short and simple. Each one offers tidbits on ways to incorporate learning into every day activities. They're easy to follow and the suggestions leave room for developing your own methods for your unique child. If someone is looking for very specific advice and lots of details, these are not the right books for you. My only wish would be to have more examples throughout. And of course, Goodnight Moon is not to be missed. A classic that doesn't get old even for this parent who is destined to read it aloud night after night sometimes. I recommend the set for this book alone, though the others only make it more worth it.

Math skills at kindergarten & The Abacus Project - Are a fun way to engage the young minds. Very simple. Goodnight Moon - My grandson loves this book. He feels the texture of the book like he is reading it and runs his fingers on the pages as I read. He sits patiently and listens as I read the story softly and comforting tone so he can wind down. It's a very fun book with a super soft cover, one for any toddler. Today, he picked the book up and jabbered as if he was reading the book to me. It was beyond adorable. When he was finished reading her book she tossed it on the sofa. Highly recommend.

The classic - Goodnight Moon - comes in board book format perfect for little hands. The two activity books that come with it were great, basic ideas to encourage learning in young children. The ideas were useful, but nothing new to parents who are already engaged with their children’s learning process. I donated them to the preschool in the hopes that some other parent - feeling frustrated in that particular area - will be able to make good use of them.

This quick read shows you how to incorporate math into everyday conversations and activities with your children. Most of the activities can be done for free with simple things found around the house: blocks, small toys, little rocks. I've seen expensive kits that were similar to this book that included the little toys and such, but this book shows you that you can teach your children without having to invest a bunch of money in it. This ideas in this book help you learn to talk and describe things to your children throughout your day which would also help develop their language skills as well.

I love the for math activity books, and can use them for both of my children since they are in both of the age groups. The books gave good simple ideas to integrate math into their everyday lives. They loved the hard Goodnight Moon book for their bedtime story the night we received them!

Two wonderful books on teaching math to little ones using everyday items and including suggestions for books to read, songs and activities plus a board book.

The abacus protect has some great tips and ideas for children to incorporate math skills in their daily routine. I love the goodnight moon book, it’s an all time favorite and it’s awesome book to have around.

I liked the quality of the books made of a durable plastic that can be wiped off. It help me identify where I need to setup in the mathematics department with my children. It goes through multiple mathematics principles and how to incorporate them into daily life with children 0 to 5.

The bound books are really simple to read and have some nice ideas. They are also durable enough to be handled by a toddler without being damaged. I found most of the content was pretty intuitive (e.g. compare the size of objects with the child and discuss the differences), but it's presented well. Goodnight Moon is a classic, and more entertaining than I remembered.
