The catalog is visually stunning, and well organized. I was surprised, though, by the different presentation that began with O’Toole’s work. The art is varied, eclectic — a mix of media and styles. It is much more representative of the artists themselves than of the Northwest. Or maybe this region is unquantifiable, despite the Portland Art Museum’s commitment to “the frontier spirit of the West that has evolved as the citizens of the Northwest have embraced a progressive outlook.”
