The Director of Community Strategies provides strategic leadership for the Foundation’s efforts to support community-driven system change through community engagement, leadership development, and rural capacity-building efforts. This role helps shape how the Foundation listens to, learns from, and partners with rural communities to strengthen local leadership, increase community influence, and support systems-level change. Working across the Foundation and throughout rural Oregon and Siskiyou County, the Director integrates community voice, field intelligence, and emerging opportunities into strategies that strengthen community capacity, inform organizational priorities, and advance long-term outcomes for rural children, families, and communities.

The Director leads a team of Community Strategists while serving as a key partner in aligning community-centered approaches with the Foundation’s broader strategic priorities. The role offers a unique opportunity to help strengthen rural communities’ ability to influence decisions, systems, and conditions that shape their future.

This is an exempt position, and the annual salary is $172,000-$181,800 depending on experience. This field-based position is intended to be based in a rural Oregon community. In addition, we welcome applications from Bend-area residents whose experience and work demonstrate a strong commitment to rural Oregon communities and alignment with the Foundation’s mission. Frequent travel (approximately 40-60%) throughout Oregon and Siskiyou County is required to support community engagement, partner relationships, Foundation events, and regional collaboration. Periodic travel to the Foundation’s Roseburg office and other Foundation locations is expected. When not engaged in community-based activities, the position offers flexibility to work remotely in alignment with Foundation expectations.

The Senior Communications Associate advances the Foundation’s mission, voice, and visibility through the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of integrated communications strategies that strengthen engagement with key audiences and elevate stories from rural communities.

Reporting to the Communications Director, this role serves as the Foundation’s primary lead for social media strategy and digital engagement while contributing to communications planning, digital storytelling, content development, and brand stewardship.

Working closely with program, policy, learning, and leadership teams, the Senior Communications Associate develops compelling communications that highlight rural communities, Foundation investments, partnerships, research, and policy priorities. The position serves as a trusted communications partner, proactively identifying opportunities to elevate stories and strengthen engagement while advancing Foundation priorities.

The ideal candidate is an experienced communications professional who combines deep social media expertise, exceptional storytelling skills, sound judgment, and strategic thinking with the ability to independently manage complex communications initiatives while collaborating effectively across the organization.

This is an exempt position, and the annual salary range is $87,000-$92,000, depending on experience. Performance and compensation are reviewed at least annually.

This position is based in Roseburg, Oregon, and follows a hybrid work model with a minimum of three days per week in the office. Residency within 40 miles of Roseburg is required. A generous relocation package is available for candidates who need to relocate to meet the residency requirement.
