Practicing artist and Associate Professor (Art Practice and Mixed Media) Portland State University (PSU), where she also serves as the Director of the School of Art + Design.


Boas’ practice is grounded in a love of color, form and the bodily dimension of language-based activities. She has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions, among them the Portland Art Museum, Elizabeth Leach Gallery, PDX Contemporary, the Art Gym and Disjecta Contemporary Art Center, in Portland, Oregon; the Hallie Ford Museum in Salem, Oregon; the Center for Contemporary Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico; the Boise Art Museum; the Salt Lake Art Center; the Nicolaysen Museum in Casper, Wyoming; the Center on Contemporary Art in Seattle and the Cleveland Museum of Art.

She is the recipient of honors, fellowships, grants and residencies from the Bonnie Bronson Fund, Caldera Arts Foundation, the Corporation of Yaddo, the Ford Family Foundation, Harold and Arlene Schnitzer CARE Foundation, Jentel Foundation, Oregon Arts Commission, Oregon College of Arts and Craft, Pollock-Krasner Foundation, Portland Art Museum, and Oregon's Regional Arts and Culture Council and among others. 

Reviews of Boas’ work have appeared in Art in America and Art Papers and she has written articles and exhibition reviews for Art Papers, artUS and Artweek. Her work resides in the public collections of the Hallie Ford Museum, the Bonnie Bronson Collection and Crow’s Shadow Institute for the Arts, as well as in numerous private collections. Boas is an associate professor and director of the School of Art + Design at Portland State University. She is represented by Elizabeth Leach Gallery in Portland, Oregon.

Boas earned a bachelor of fine arts degree in printmaking from the Pacific Northwest College of Art and a master of fine arts degree in painting from Portland State University.
