Tim Inman joins Foundation as first Chief Policy and Public Affairs Officer

A wealth of policy experience and eagerness to bridge divides will help Inman deliver on the Foundation’s commitment to improving the lives of rural kids

ROSEBURG, Ore. The Ford Family Foundation is pleased to announce the addition of veteran policy strategist Tim Inman as its first Chief Policy and Public Affairs Officer. Inman will direct the development and implementation of the Foundation’s policy agenda, as well as lead external engagement and communications. Inman, who grew up on a multi-generational family farm in Elmira, works out of the Eugene office.

“Tim knows the rural experience because he lives it,” says Kara Inae Carlisle, the Foundation’s president and CEO. “He knows how to walk the line, listen and talk across differences, and nurture deeper understanding that informs strategy. The expertise he brings will help us ensure that Oregon’s rural kids are front and center.”

Inman joins the Foundation from the University of Oregon, where he worked as university secretary and vice president for government and community relations. He also worked in Oregon’s political arena for 13 years, including serving as chief of staff for then-Speaker of the House Tina Kotek and then as leader of her gubernatorial transition team. He holds a bachelor of arts and masters degree in public policy from Oregon State University.

“I think the best solutions come when you can pull the public, private and non-profit sectors together,” Inman says. “An organization like The Ford Family Foundation has a tremendous ability to be a convener—bringing those parties together around shared problems. It’s really powerful and deeply needed, especially in a time where people are more disconnected and divided than ever.”
