Child Abuse Prevention Month

Trainings in your community to protect children from child abuse

On This Page

Parents aren’t the only ones responsible for preventing child sexual abuse. Athletic coaches, teachers, clergy, school personnel, healthcare workers and others are required by law to report child sexual abuse.

Organizations that train their staff and volunteers to prevent child sexual abuse create healthy environments that protect kids by:

  • Teaching staff and volunteers to recognize the signs of child sexual abuse.
  • Helping staff and volunteers learn how to eliminate opportunities for child sexual abuse—one of the most effective ways to prevent it.
  • Increasing the likelihood that parents will commit their children to your programs.

More than 30,000 people in Oregon and California have taken the pledge to protect children in their communities. Get trained and be a champion for kids.

Sign up today: Free or minimal-cost trainings. Find your county below to connect with the organization administering trainings in your area. (List updated August 2020). Trainings are also available online. Contact your local site for more information.

Trainings to prevent, recognize and react responsibly

The Ford Family Foundation provides funding across Oregon and in Siskiyou County, Calif., for Protect Our Children, a program to prevent child sexual abuse.

The program uses a nationally acclaimed training curriculum: Darkness to Light’s Stewards of Children. The training is designed to educate adults on how to prevent, recognize and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. Organizations and individuals can receive the training at minimal or no cost.
