Working with other organizations
On This Page
The Ford Family Foundation often is more than a funder. We may collaborate with other organizations or take a leadership role on an issue that advances our strategies. Here are projects that the Foundation currently supports:
Prenatal-to-3rd-Grade (P3) Alignment
In partnership with Children’s Institute and Yoncalla Elementary School, the Foundation has launched an effort to strengthen early childhood programs and services in Yoncalla with the local elementary school acting as a catalyst. The Yoncalla Early Works demonstration site is possible because of the commitment of the Yoncalla Elementary school principal, teachers, board members and other community members. They are motivated to help get all children in their community ready for kindergarten. Yoncalla Early Works has inspired partnerships with other regions working on P3, including the South Coast Regional Early Learning Hub, Roseburg School District, and the South Central Early Learning Hub
OPEC is a partnership of four of Oregon’s largest foundations (The Oregon Community Foundation, The Ford Family Foundation, Meyer Memorial Trust and The Collins Foundation) and Oregon State University. In addition to funding, OPEC supports grantees through evaluation, technical assistance, and professional development led by Oregon State University.
Home Visiting Systems Coordination
Maternal, infant and early childhood home visiting helps very young children and their families thrive. Voluntary home-visiting programs are offered throughout rural Oregon and Siskiyou, Calif. To help connect them, the Foundation invited Early Learning Hub partners in Coos and Douglas counties and First 5 Siskiyou in California to be part of a multi-year project. The project focuses on building regional practices and policies to strengthen collaboration between the programs, including regional common intake/referral processes, professional development opportunities and outreach tools.
Out-of-School Time partnership (K-12)
We work with the Oregon Community Foundation’s K-12 Student Success: Out-of-School Time grants initiative. The initiative promotes academic success and post-secondary enrollment, organizational development and program effectiveness.
Foundations for a Better Oregon (FBO) is a statewide nonprofit organization founded by The Ford Family Foundation and four other regional foundations to envision and advance a better Oregon where every child knows that they belong. Anchored in shared learning and authentic collaboration, FBO bridges community, policymakers, and philanthropy to demystify and reimagine how Oregon’s systems support every child to learn, grow and thrive. With deep experience in policy advocacy, convening, research, and storytelling, FBO (formerly known as Chalkboard Project) works with partners across Oregon to lift up community-driven solutions that promise to radically accelerate progress for children.
PROTECT OUR CHILDREN (0-18)
We are partnering with several organizations across Oregon and in Siskiyou County, Calif., to be a part of Protect Our Children, a Ford Family Foundation program to prevent child sexual abuse. The training is designed to educate adults on how to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. The training is offered to organizations and individuals at minimal or no cost.
Oral Health Funders Collaborative (0-18)
We support efforts to increase the health of underserved children through funding nonprofits that provide improved access to health and dental services, preventative services and education. We also fund professional recruitment, training and incentives for medical and oral health care professionals who serve youth.
